Ms. Mandy Pet joined PROTEUS in February 2008 as the Director for Knowledge & Language Solutions.  In this role, she brings a vision of assisting the U.S. government in turning massive volumes of multilingual data and information into actionable knowledge. With a focus on creating and capturing knowledge both inside PROTEUS and in the customer spaces, Ms. Pet and PROTEUS are assisting its customers in pulling together a strategic vision and plan to create and use tools and techniques for creating value added knowledge from multilingual information. The Knowledge & Language Solutions division’s efforts work across PROTEUS to support human language technologies (HLT) and supporting multilingual database, application, and collaboration efforts.
Ms. Pet has over 28 years of experience in the intelligence community. Ms. Pet has dedicated a vast portion of her career to the fields of database engineering, multilingual processing, internationalization (I18N) and human language technology (HLT). Her combined experience in multilingual processing is over 17 years.

Prior to joining PROTEUS, Mandy worked for the MITRE Corporation as a Principal Artificial Intelligence engineer for the Center for Integrated Intelligence, where she led efforts in language technology, database design and implementation, data warehousing and advanced research in information extraction for less commonly taught languages (LCTL). Prior to MITRE, Ms. Pet was a Senior Practice Director for Oracle Consulting where she successfully managed an $18M revenue generating cost center. Ms. Pet has over 22 years of concentrated experience in management, business development, database, software engineering and consulting--including two and a half years as an independent consultant and is an experienced linguist and analyst. Ms. Pet ran Oracle’s Internationalization (I18N) and Globalization Solutions Center that focused on developing and implementing internationalized multilingual processing solutions for managing information in multiple natural languages. Ms. Pet also served as the Vice President for the Government Solutions Group at Trados Corporation, a translation memory and terminology management vendor acquired by SDL, Inc. 

In 1998, Ms. Pet was awarded a U.S. patent entitled, “Method of Efficiently and Flexibly Storing, Retrieving, and Modifying Data in Any Language Representation” for usage in relational database management systems.  She is an official U.S. delegate to the ISO Technical Subcommittee (TC) 37, Working Group 4, Language Resource Management and is a contributing author of draft standard ISO 26413, Lexical Markup Framework. She also served on the editorial board and is a contributing writer to Multilingual Communications and Technology Magazine.

Ms. Pet holds an M.S. in Computer Systems Management and Database Technologies and a B.S. in Computer and Information Science with a minor in Technology Management, both from the University of Maryland, University College (UMUC).

Mandy enjoys spending time with her husband and college age sons. Her oldest is studying mechanical and nuclear engineering at Penn State and her youngest will graduate high school in 2008 and pursue a degree in Culinary Sciences from Johnson and Wales University. In her spare time, when she is not pursuing graduate studies, Mandy enjoys exercising, reading, and writing both technical and non-technical works of literature.
