PROTEUS Technologies, LLC Awards $5,000 in Scholarship Funds to the East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania Richard G. Prince Memorial Fund

Contribution pays tribute to an outstanding educator and supports a fund which provides needed financial help to qualifying Computer Science students
Columbia, MD - November 30, 2005 — PROTEUS Technologies, LLC is proud to announce today a corporate contribution in the amount of $5,000 to the East Stroudsburg University (ESU) Richard G. Prince Scholarship Fund, which recognizes and supports CS students. Professor Prince taught at ESU from 1972 until the time of his death in early 2004, when he succumbed to acute brain cancer. He was a founding member of the Computer Science Department. According to Professor Charles Cole, a close friend and associate, "Professor Prince was both a true scholar and teacher. His classes were always rigorous. However, he was always available to students when they needed help. There are many graduates who would not have 'stuck it out' without his encouragement and compassion."
The Richard G. Prince Scholarship Endowment Fund was established at ESU by the Computer Science Department, in conjunction with his wife, Professor Deborah Prince. Under the provisions of the endowment, a portion of earnings will be used for a scholarship with the principal remaining in the endowment. Each year the recipient is selected by the Computer Science Department. The student's past academic performance and financial need are important criteria. The faculty may also consider whether the student shows promise but might need some extra encouragement to continue their education. This was often the type of student Professor Prince took under his wing.
PROTEUS' ESU alum Chuck Taylor is gratified to be giving back to this scholarship fund. Chuck, a (many time) former student of Dr. Prince, states "Dr. Prince provided the foundation and support I needed to successfully complete my undergraduate and Master's Computer Science studies. PROTEUS would not exist today if it were not for this incredible man. His passing was a loss which can't be expressed in words, but he'll be remembered through this great fund."
