Benefits Computer Science Students at East Stroudsburg
University of Pennsylvania
Annapolis Junction, MD, January 31, 2007 – Proteus Technologies, LLC is proud of their association and continued commitment to providing annual support for the East Stroudsburg University (ESU) of Pennsylvania’s Dr. Richard G. Prince Memorial Scholarship Fund for Computer Science students.
PROTEUS has announced its second annual contribution to the Fund, strengthening PROTEUS’ ideals to give back to the individuals and establishments that provided the inspiration and foundation for the origin of PROTEUS. ESU is the alma mater of Dr. Charles Taylor, PROTEUS’ Executive Vice President. According to Taylor, “It is difficult to describe in words the immense gratitude that I have for the late Dr. Prince and the entire ESU Computer Science Department for providing me with the challenges and support that fueled my passion for the field of computer science. Ultimately, this passion in part led to the formation of PROTEUS, and I could not be more pleased to be helping ESU to pass along the legacy of Dr. Prince’s brilliance in CS and his compassion for his students”.
ESU actually has two scholarship funds to support qualified Computer Science students. One fund is the Dr. Richard G. Prince Memorial Scholarship Fund. This $750 scholarship award is to a student majoring in Computer Science, with at least two semesters of completed course work. The second fund, established several years ago with an initial contribution by PROTEUS Technologies, is known as the PROTEUS Technologies Scholarship, with a $1,000 award to a deserving graduate student majoring in Computer Science in one of the four areas: distributed computing and framework development; advanced and scientific computing; software development process and engineering; and web and enterprise computing. Dr. Taylor says, “These are some of PROTEUS’ core service areas, undertaken by PROTEUS to support Federal Intelligence agencies with reliable solutions in critical national security areas. We are pleased to be supporting the academic growth of a deserving computer science candidate in these important areas of computing.”
This year’s gift of $6,000 provides funding for these two important scholarship funds – funds that could make the difference in the college career of a student working hard to achieve his or her academic goals. About ESU
East Stroudsburg University is one of the fourteen institutions in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. Founded in 1893 as a Normal School to prepare teachers, the institution changed its name in 1927 to East Stroudsburg State Teachers College and again in 1960 to East Stroudsburg State College, reflecting the addition of liberal arts and science curriculums. In 1983, it achieved university status.
