PROTEUS Technologies' Enterprise Health & Status Monitoring "A-POD Framework" Nominated For AFCEA Golden Link Award

Innovative Approach to Instrumenting, Monitoring and Managing the Enterprise's Distributed Software Services Cited in the Nomination

Columbia, MD -- March 17, 2005 — PROTEUS Technologies announced today that it has been nominated for the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) Golden Link Award for its "Aggregated Portlets on Demand" (A-POD) framework.

The AFCEA Golden Link Award recognizes government-industry partnerships and innovation in developing and deploying technology solutions to support government operations. This year's nominees are recognized for providing technology solutions under the TechNet International 2005 theme - Network Centric Operations: Balancing Speed and Agility with Security.

"AFCEA is a highly respected, widely recognized technology voice in the Intelligence Community. The Golden Link nomination is a true affirmation that PROTEUS is on the leading edge of innovative, yet agile software solutions which further our Government partner's mission," stated PROTEUS' Executive Vice President, Dr. Charles Taylor. "Monitoring and managing today's ever-expanding Enterprise continues to overwhelm many of our Client's system administrators. They need better, smarter, faster, yet simpler products to monitor and control the Enterprise's disparate services. A-POD fills that niche."

"With so many different monitoring and management applications active in our production environment, we've been looking for a solution that would bring these services under the same management solution umbrella while preserving prior investment in our legacy applications. The addition of A-POD into our architecture has great potential for accomplishing those objectives," claimed one Department of Defense client.

A-POD is more than just a portal-based aggregation of the Enterprise's health and status monitoring (H&SM) content, but rather, a secure, distributed, cost-effective service management framework and control capability. By exploiting the Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) standard, "out-of-the-box" Jini, J2EE/EJB, or JMX Service Providers, and an Application Programming Interface (API), A-POD integrates enterprise applications to create a macroscopic view, without incurring expensive development costs. These innovations also promote great savings in portal server licenses that are reminiscent of conventional portal architectures.

"We're extremely excited about the potential A-POD brings to our Clients", Dr. Taylor said. "There are a multitude of benefits the enterprise can leverage from centralizing applications into portals without having to re-architect its legacy software services. A-POD really lowers the barriers to entry with the portal architecture, and leaves the IT managers looking for new ways to leverage portal solutions in their enterprise."
